Guaranteed Security
The Bible teaches us that salvation in Christ can be obtained in a moment, when one repents and receives Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior. This salvation is based on the merits of a crucified and risen Savior. However, salvation cannot be maintained apart from Christ. If we abide in Christ, the True Vine, we are saved. If we depart from the vine, we are not saved. If we depart from the vine, we will wither and die spiritually and make shipwreck of faith. Let’s allow the Word of God to teach us about the guaranteed salvation.
1. What did Paul say would happen to him if he did not fight the good fight of faith and bring his body into subjection? (1 Cor. 9:26-27)
“I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a ________.”
NOTE: The word translated “castaway” in the Greek literally means “disqualified.” Paul did not teach a once saved, always saved doctrine.
2. What did Jesus say would happen to a person’s crown if he did not hold fast to it? (Revelation 3:11)
“Behold, I come quickly: ______ that fast which thou hast, that no man ______ thy crown.”
NOTE: If a person who received Christ is always saved, why then does the Jesus says, “hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.”
3. Who did Jesus promise the right to the tree of life, victory over the second death, the right to eat from His hidden manna, power over the nations, and the right to share His own throne? (Rev. 2:7, 11; 2:17, 26; 3:21)
NOTE: Jesus promised eternal life to those who overcame. If you’re not an overcomer, then the promise is not for you.
4. Who will have eternal security and never more be able to go out? (Rev. 3:12)
“Him that ____________ will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.”
NOTE: It is only after the destruction of sin that the overcomers are secured and “shall go no more out.”
5. Who did Jesus say will ultimately be saved? (Mat 10:22)
“And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.”
6. What happens to those who trample underfoot the blood of Christ, and who sin “willfully” after they have received knowledge of the truth? (Hebrews 10:26-29)
“For if we sin ________ after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much ______ punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
NOTE: This passage is not talking about unbelievers. It is talking about those who were sanctified. And the Bible teaches that the only way to be sanctified is to receive Christ. The idea that you are always saved because you were once saved is foreign to the Bible and is a dangerous doctrine of the devil.
7. Who will receive “eternal salvation’? (Hebrews 5:9)
“And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that ______ him.”
NOTE: ONLY those who obey are saved. If a person does not obey God, he/she WILL NOT be saved regardless of whether they bring a sacrifice or offers prayers. The Bible teaches that obedience trumps sacrifices. It tells us that “to obey is better than sacrifice,” (1 Sam. 15:22). Further, to claim to know God and refuse to do His will is to make Him a liar. This is because God made a covenant with His people. He said, “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts…” (Hebrews 8:10).
8. If a person says he “knows” the Lord, and yet they break God’s commandments, according to the Word of God, what are they? (1 John 2:4)
“He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a ______, and the truth is not in him.”
9. Will liars enter the kingdom of God? (Rev. 22:15)
10. What does the Lord give those who receive His son as their personal Savior? (John 1:12-13)
11. Did Jesus say it was possible to have your name blotted out from the book of life? (Rev. 3:5)
“For _____________ are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a ____.”
NOTE: Jesus taught that abiding in Him was needed to ensure eternal salvation. While obedience is not what saves us, it shows that we really love God and we accept His Lordship? (John 14:15, Luke 6:46)
12. What are the things a person has to do in order not fall? (2 Peter 1:4-11).
And beside this, giving all _________, add to your faith _______; and to virtue _________; And to knowledge ___________; and to temperance __________; and to patience __________; And to godliness brotherly _________; and to brotherly kindness _______. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
NOTE: We had to “give diligence to make your calling and election sure” (v. 10).
13. What did Paul teach about being saved? (Phil. 2:12)
“______ out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”
14. What happens to the person who does not abide in Christ? (John 15:6)
“If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is _________; and men ______ them, and cast them into the fire, and they are ________.”
NOTE: It is a delusion of the devil to believe that “once saved always saved.” This verse destroys that possibility. According to Jesus, if you depart from Him, you not only wither, but you eventually are casted into the fire.
15. Who did Jesus say would receive the “crown” of eternal life? (Rev. 2:10)
“…be thou faithful _______ death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”
NOTE: If Jesus taught once saved always saved, why would He demand Christians to be “faithful unto death,” in order to get “a crown of life?”
16. What did the Lord say would happen to a “righteous” man if he turns away from the righteousness and commits “iniquity”? (Ezekiel 18:24).
“But when the righteous _________ away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall ____ be _________: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
NOTE: The question of once saved always saved is directly asked and answered. The passage says that when the righteous take away and sin, the die!
17. What must those who think to highly of themselves be careful of? (1 Cor. 10:12)
“Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he _______.”
18. Are you willing to abide in Christ, obeying His words until He comes again?
See Matthew 14:28-33 and discover that Peter was safe as long as he kept his eyes fixed on Jesus. We must do the same.
